Establishing a Chain of Custody creates a paper trail to ensure the DNA sample has not been tampered with during each step of the process to ensure. This includes verification of government issued photo id for each adult tested, photo of each party tested, and signature for each adult tested.
How it works
DNA paternity testing involves the scientific determination of whether a tested individual can be the biological father of a child or not. It is an important and highly personal matter which affects a number of individuals, most importantly, the child. Orchid Cellmark is very sensitive to this and understands the importance of an accurate, confidential and timely service.
There are two major kinds of DNA paternity tests; a legal DNA paternity test and a home DNA paternity test. The results of both tests are equal in terms of accuracy however only the court ready test result can be used in a legal matter. This is due to differences in the chain of custody procedures at the time that the specimens are collected.
While painless cheek swabs are the “specimen of choice", non-standard specimens can be tested, with equally accurate results.
With a routine turnaround time of 3-5 business days from the date of receipt of the last sample, you will not have to wait a long time to get an answer.
Your results will either state a probability of paternity which is routinely 99.99% or higher or 0.000%.

Your Test Options
DNA Paternity Testing involves the determination of whether a tested individual can be the biological father of a child.
At Home Test
The cheek swab samples are taken at home without any Chain of Custody so the results cannot be used in a legal matter. (Not available for NY residents)
Legal Test
Specimen collection takes place in a third-party site and the results can be used in court or other legal proceeding.
Prenatal Test
The child isn't born yet but the mother and alleged father wish to determine paternity.
Deceased Alleged Father Test
The alleged father is deceased but there are known living relatives or known personal effects from the alleged father which are available for testing.

Payment Plan Option for Home & Legal Paternity Tests
Additionally we offer our customers, who would prefer to pay for a test over time, the option to set up an account to make incremental payments until the cost of the test is completed. This option is available only for the Home and Legal Paternity Tests.
To set up your secure personal account you will be required to place a $100 deposit and at your convenience you can pay down the test cost through increments of $50, $75 and $100 by credit card. Once your payment is complete we will deliver your test results to the address of your choice.
