A Heritage ID DNA test can be conducted on an ante-mortem or post-mortem basis. It provides the individual or family with a unique DNA profile and a preserved DNA sample for potential future use in resolving questions about the person's estate, genealogy and genetically-inherited disease state.

Heritage ID is a revolutionary way to protect family genetic information to answer a number of questions that may arise in the future. Heritage ID testing can take place on an ante-mortem basis (i.e. before death) or on a post-mortem basis. The preserved DNA and/or DNA profile can be used in the future as follows:

• To resolve a post-mortem claim on an estate

• To determine the bio-geographical background of an individual

In order to conduct an ante-mortem Heritage ID test, painless cheek swab samples are collected at one of our 5000 specimen collection sites. In order to conduct a post-mortem Heritage ID test, a pathology or autopsy sample may be used or a funeral home may provide assistance in collecting a sample from the deceased.

The end result is a Heritage ID card which includes identifying information on the donor as well as a complete DNA profile and an actual DNA sample which could be removed and used for further testing if needed.
