The race of individual is used to select a data base of frequencies used to calculate the statistics associated with the paternity index from which the probability of paternity is derived. Changing the race will never reverse the overall conclusion ie. if a man is excluded he will be excluded no matter what database is used, the same is true if a man fails to be excluded. Selecting a different race will slightly alter the value for the Combined Paternity Index, if the man is not excluded. If the man is excluded, then Combined Paternity Index will still be 0. If an individual is part black and part white, one may designate themselves as “Other” for race.
