1. What Types of Testing Do You Do?
Orchid Cellmark conducts DNA paternity and maternity testing in
domestic adoption cases, DNA maternity testing in Guatemalan or Vietnam adoption
cases and kinship testing in post-adoption reunions.
2. Do I have to have a doctor’s order?
A doctor’s order is not generally required. However, in
compliance with New York State Law, Orchid Cellmark requires a
prescription or court order for all DNA identity and/or relationship
tests performed on a New York resident.
3. Do I need an attorney or court order?
If all parties involved in the testing agree to participate
voluntarily, neither an attorney nor court order is required. However
in compliance with New York State Law, Orchid Cellmark requires a
prescription or court order for all DNA identity and/or relationship
tests performed on a New York resident.
4. Do you perform Adoption Testing in Countries other than Guatemala and Vietnam?
Orchid Cellmark performs DNA testing in adoption cases for children
originating from other countries such as Haiti when requested by the
Department of State or the Department of Homeland Security. Mandatory
DNA testing, for adoption cases, is only required at this time for
children originating from Guatemala and Vietnam.
5. For international adoption cases, does your test meet DOS and DHS Requirements?
All of Orchid Cellmark’s procedures for international DNA testing,
including Guatemala, are in compliance with the requirements of the
American Association of Blood Banks, the Department of State and the
Department of Homeland Security.
6. Can my DNA be used to test for a pre-existing condition that
could prevent the tested parties from receiving health care insurance?
The DNA markers which are tested for relationship testing do not
provide any information on any specific physical or medical condition
that might affect your health care insurance.
