Orchid Cellmark believes it is important to stay updated on legislative changes that affect our attorney clientele. To that end, we subscribe to a number of e-newsletters and we are affiliate members of certain legal associations. Continuing Legal Education

Since the early use of genetic testing, the technology has changed quite drastically. The first DNA technology, RFLP, is now virtually obsolete, with the newer STR technologies being used in more than 98% of all paternity cases reported by the aaBB member laboratories+.

There are also more sophisticated DNA technologies called Y-STR and mitochondrial DNA analysis, which are available from Orchid Cellmark and have specific applications in complex kinship cases that might occur in immigration or estate practices.

In the process of setting up a genetic test with our clients, some of them inquire about issues which are strictly legal in nature. In such situations, we prefer to refer the client to an attorney who may help them.
